Cybersecurity Case Study Overview

When a cybersecurity company came to Amplifyed with declining organic visibility, almost no page-one rankings, and a site that averaged just 340 monthly visitors, they needed a complete SEO transformation. In five months, we delivered a 64% increase in organic traffic, grew indexed keywords by 91%, and expanded page-one rankings by 390%.

Here’s exactly how we did it—and what other cybersecurity companies can learn from the results.

Project Overview

In October 2022, Castra (now Lumify), a cybersecurity brand specializing in managed detection and response cybersecurity services, approached Amplifyed for help with their organic growth.

Industry: Cybersecurity (B2B SaaS)

Client: Castra (now Lumify)

Services Provided: SEO Strategy, Content Strategy, Technical SEO, On-Page Optimization

Engagement Timeline: October 2022 – February 2023 (5 months)

Primary Goals: Increase organic traffic, grow keyword rankings, and generate more qualified inbound leads

The Challenge

When Castra first engaged with us, the situation was stark. The site was barely visible in organic search, lead flow from the website was minimal, and the competitive cybersecurity SERP landscape made every ranking improvement an uphill battle.

Here’s what we were working with:

  • Minimal organic traffic: The site averaged just 340 organic users per month.
  • Almost no page-one visibility: Only 10 keywords ranked on the first page of Google.
  • Limited keyword footprint: Just 350 total keywords were indexed.
  • No dedicated service pages: The site lacked pages targeting core offerings like MDR, MXDR, and threat intelligence services.
  • Content gaps: There was no blog content addressing buyer pain points or establishing topical authority.
  • Technical SEO issues: Broken links, faulty redirects, slow page speeds, and unoptimized metadata were holding the site back.
  • Low lead generation: Potential clients' inbound leads from the site were insufficient to sustain business growth.

Achieving Castra’s goals of increasing high-quality traffic and inbound leads would require a comprehensive, phased approach across content, technical SEO, and on-page optimization.

Our Cybersecurity SEO Strategye

We developed a four-phase cybersecurity SEO strategy designed to build a strong organic foundation and then scale results over the engagement period.

Keyword Strategy & Content Mapping

Our first step was conducting thorough keyword research to identify untapped opportunities and build a content marketing strategy aligned with Castra’s business objectives.

Using industry-leading tools and competitor analysis within the cybersecurity niche, we identified three tiers of keywords:

  • Bottom-of-Funnel (BoFU) Keywords: High buyer-intent terms like “MDR services,” “managed SIEM services,” and “threat intelligence services.” We also targeted product-related terms like “Exabeam” and “Palo Alto Cortex” to attract businesses actively searching for cybersecurity solutions.
  • Top-of-Funnel (ToFU) Keywords: Informational search terms such as “How to implement proactive cybersecurity in banking” and “What is EDR and XDR?” These would build topical authority and introduce potential leads to Castra’s solutions without direct sales pressure.
  • Middle-of-Funnel (MoFU) Keywords: Mixed-intent terms like “EDR vs XDR: Which is best for your business?” and “Best threat intelligence tools.” We planned comparison content to address specific pain points and pre-sell Castra’s services.

We also audited Castra’s existing content to find gaps in keyword coverage, specifically looking for missing search terms with high buyer intent. Additionally, we monitored trending cybersecurity topics like “OpenSSL vulnerabilities” to target timely, relevant search queries.

Content Strategy & Publishing Timeline

With our keywords mapped, we built a phased content calendar that prioritized quick wins first:

  • BoFU content (November 2022): Service pages were created first, targeting high-intent keywords like “MDR” and “MXDR.” Each page highlighted the unique value of Castra’s solutions to differentiate from competitors and attract near-conversion leads.
  • ToFU content (October – February 2022–2023): Blog posts addressed foundational and trend-based topics, including pieces like “OpenSSL 3.0.7 Released: Everything you need to know” and “People first, automation second: Unlock the real value of your SOC.”
  • MoFU content (December 2022 – February 2023): Comparison articles such as “SIEM vs IDS for Enterprise Security” gave users actionable insights and subtly positioned Castra’s services as solutions. We also created content targeting the banking and finance verticals, where cybersecurity demand is high and prospects tend to be higher-value leads.

On-Page Optimization

Beyond creating new content, we optimized Castra’s existing pages to improve their relevance and performance:

  • Optimized meta titles, meta descriptions, and headers with target keywords
  • Incorporated keywords naturally within body content to improve on-page search engine optimization signals
  • Added compelling, solution-oriented CTAs designed to drive leads toward conversion
  • Established a logical internal linking structure within topic clusters to improve navigation for both users and search engine crawlers

Technical SEO Improvements

We conducted an in-depth SEO audit (including Core Web Vitals) to identify and resolve technical issues preventing Google from effectively crawling and indexing the site:

  • Fixed all broken links and faulty redirects
  • Optimized site metadata for relevance and consistency
  • Minified CSS, JavaScript, and HTML code
  • Compressed large files and optimized image formats (e.g., JPEG for photos)
  • Implemented browser caching for faster repeat-visit load times

As part of our SEO efforts, these technical improvements enhanced site speed, reduced bounce rates, and ensured all pages were discoverable in SERPs.

Execution Timeline

Our engagement followed a phased rollout over five months:

Each strategic SEO phase built on the previous one. By front-loading high-intent service pages, we created immediate ranking opportunities while longer-term authority-building content matured in the background.

Results

Within five months (October 2022 to February 2023), the impact of our SEO strategy was clear across every key metric:

Traffic Growth

64% increase in organic traffic — monthly organic users grew from 340 to 560.

Keyword Growth

91% increase in indexed keywords — from 350 to 670 total keywords.

390% increase in page-one rankings — first-page keywords surged from 10 to 49, including terms like “Threatstream” and “USM Anywhere.”

Ranking Improvements

Core keyword rankings saw dramatic SEO performance improvements:

  • “MDR Services”: Up 66 positions
  • “Threat Intelligence Services”: Up 55 positions
  • “XDR Solutions”: Up 70 positions

Lead Generation

These traffic and ranking improvements directly led to an increase in qualified inbound leads, which was the client’s primary business objective.

Key Takeaways

This engagement reinforced several critical lessons about SEO in the cybersecurity space:

  • Prioritize BoFU content for quick wins. By creating service pages targeting high-intent keywords first, we generated ranking improvements and traffic growth within weeks rather than months.
  • A full-funnel keyword strategy builds compounding authority. Targeting ToFU, MoFU, and BoFU keywords simultaneously created a content ecosystem that strengthened rankings across the board.
  • Technical SEO is foundational. Fixing broken links, improving site speed, and optimizing metadata removed barriers that were preventing Google from properly indexing and ranking the site.
  • Competitor analysis uncovers hidden opportunities. Mining competitor sites for keyword gaps revealed high-value terms that Castra wasn’t targeting, including niche product keywords that drove qualified traffic.
  • Internal linking amplifies content performance. Establishing topic clusters with logical internal links improved both user navigation and crawl efficiency, helping new pages rank faster.
  • Trending topics can accelerate early results. Targeting timely queries like OpenSSL vulnerability news captured time-sensitive traffic and built early momentum while evergreen content matured.

Why This Matters for Cybersecurity Companies

The cybersecurity industry presents unique SEO challenges that many agencies aren’t equipped to handle.

Cybersecurity SERPs are dominated by well-funded competitors with deep content libraries and strong domain authority. The buyer journey is complex, often involving multiple decision-makers and long sales cycles. And the technical nature of the products means that content needs to be authoritative and accurate to build trust with a highly informed audience.

This case study demonstrates that even in a competitive vertical like cybersecurity, a structured SEO strategy focused on keyword intent, content quality, and technical excellence can produce meaningful results in a short timeframe.

Whether you’re a managed security services provider, an endpoint protection vendor, or a GRC platform, the fundamentals are the same: understand your buyer’s search behavior, create content that addresses their needs at every stage of the funnel, and ensure your site’s technical foundation supports discoverability.
